I had already tried the Yalumba Antique
Tawny well in advance before opening this bottle. It sat
in my wine storage space, waiting for a good time to crack
it open.
While the texture is heavier than the
average wine -- this being from the fact of it being a
dessert wine -- this wine grabs you with the rich aroma of
raisins, as well as a taste somewhere between some premium
raisins with an aftertaste that would be somewhat
reminiscent of a very subtle coffee bean, if not a very
slight anise. In fact, it will very vaguely remind you of
the last hints of a slight amaretto in the final seconds
when the flavor fades from your palate.
This is an all-consuming dessertif, not to
be taken lightly, but to be savored along with something
that is just as rich and decadent.
